Andrew Sachs and Clive Merrison recording a scene from The Singular Inheritance of Miss Gloria Wilson

Most scenes are recorded in front of a single stereo microphone. This allows the actors considerable freedom to move around the sound-stage, and permits the use of perspective and stereo placing. Speaking quietly close to the microphone gives a feeling of intimacy and sincerity; louder speech delivered from further away has a more open, public feel.
