221 BBC

I'm sorry, but current stocks of 221 BBC are now completely sold out.
I hope that a second edition, revised and updated, will be available before too long.

As the latest in their series of "Musgrave Monographs" the UK-based Sherlock Holmes society The Northern Musgraves have commissioned 221 BBC - Writing for the World's First Complete Dramatised Canon" from the series' head writer, Bert Coules.

221BBC cover 221 BBC traces the history of Holmes and Watson on radio from the first broadcast in 1930 (Holmes was played by a seventy-four year old William Gillette) through the Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce years in America, and the Carleton Hobbs/Norman Shelley era in the UK, up to the Merrison/Williams series which is the prime focus of the work.

Series editor John Addy comments: "Bert Coules' unique insight into the world of radio dramatisation provides a fascinating story full of background detail and incident as he describes his work with the team of actors, directors, production staff and other writers."

The Monograph includes photographs, interviews, reviews, backstage anecdotes and script extracts (including some material never broadcast).
